Wooden Porch Swing

A wooden porch swing brings on sweet memories of times past. Recalling lazy summer days swinging the time away; long summer dusks catching the breeze and watching the sun sink; warm summer nights watching the moon rise and the stars come out. If there was a wooden swing on the porch of a former home, these are the kind of memories a swing brings back.

A wooden porch swing is a fine accessory to grace a house;it makes it look all the more homey and happy. Summer, though, is not the only season that a wooden porch swing can be used. Sitting on a crisp fall day admiring the autumn leaves, bundled up watching the snow fall in winter, and enjoying the first flowers of spring is all the more enjoyable sitting on a wooden porch swing.

A porch swing can be hung from the ceiling of a porch. A free-standing porch attached to it’s own swing apparatus is the other option. A family’s needs and situation should dictate what kind of wooden porch swing is acquired. A family who rents a house, for example, might want to pick a free-standing porch swing that doesn’t leave holes in the porch when they move. A family that might like to move a swing to the back yard on occasion would benefit from a free-standing model. Those lucky folk who own a beautiful old wooden home might feel that the finishing touch to their outside decor would be an old fashioned hung wooden porch swing.

Each style of wooden porch swing seems to have that satisfying “creaking” sound when moving back and forth. Each can sport nice pillows and cushions covered in plastic, duck fabric, or canvas. Each can be stained or painted to match the porch.

Summer evenings are particularly made for the wooden porch swing. The older members of the family will particularly enjoy this activity. Perhaps they can be persuaded to tell some stories about when they were young. Little kids, especially, will be fascinated. Rather than sitting in a stuffy house watching TV, these evenings can make for stronger families and wonderful memories.
